Integrated Youth Support Leads/

Heads of Service (HOS) Group

This group is one of the two key strategic groups within the YWU; and with VYON determines the strategic direction of the Unit's work overall and in particular has set up the operational groups to develop and report on focused work in these areas.

The group is made up of the key LA officer with responsibility for youth work, though senior managers tend to deputise. The purpose of the group is voice and influence, perspective and strategy; seeking to give a strategic lead, respond to current government legislation and to position youth work high on the regional agenda.

Meetings are held quarterly so that ideas and practice are shared (national, regional and local), developments are discussed, information and strategic thinking is analysed, consultations are responded to and position statements agreed. Workshops/seminars are also planned, as well as task groups set up to progress a more detailed exploration of issues.

Current and recent discussion areas are:

  • Integrated and Targeted Youth Support
  • Positive Activities for Young People
  • Management Information Systems
  • Quality Assurance
  • National Occupational Standards
  • Aiming High for Young People
  • Youth Opportunities Fund
  • Commissioning

The current co-chairs are Carol Stone from Calderdale and Jackie Brewis from East Riding. Both are also Trustees of the Unit Management Group/Board.
